About Jackie
Jaclyn Guido makes assemblage sculpture using ceramic, fabric, wood, metal, and recontextualized objects to explore familial structures, relationships, gender roles, emotional states, and their somatic interpretations. Through an iterative process of collage, drawing, sculpting, and experimenting with object juxtapositions, her process mines for cultural meaning in existing objects and artifacts, and strives to craft unique objects that respond to, generate, and at times offer solutions to fear, aggression, apathy, and joy. Her current practice incorporates rural, domestic artifacts. These are ubiquitous objects shaped by repeated use, wear, and comfort. Earlier work incorporated organic materials such as branches and roots to investigate growth, instability, and physical tension. This transition reflects a movement from natural systems to cultural ones, allowing the work to engage more directly with history, emotional inheritance, and gender through material form. By fragmenting and pairing loaded artifacts with crafted ceramics, drapery, and wool volumes, she creates a friction where human gesture and contemporary abstraction intersect.
Jackie (b. 1985, Baltimore) formally launched her studio practice following an accomplished career as a spatial designer (window displays and stores) for high-end global fashion brands. Her foundational body of work, conceived and fabricated five years ago, serves as the catalyst for her current practice. She received formal training in visual arts and design at Rhode Island School of Design, and in ceramics at Greenwich House Pottery in New York City. Her work has been exhibited at Bushel Collective in Delhi, NY, Atlantic Gallery in Chelsea, NY, Waverly Street Gallery in Bethesda, MD, and Neoteric Fine Art in Amagansett, NY. She lives and works in the Catskills.
She lives and works at her studio in Hamden, NY.
